As a Personal Trainer In Mississauga, I can usually tell within a few minutes of talking to someone if they are going to be successful losing weight. How? It’s all in their attitude.
You Are What You Tell Yourself
If you tell yourself you can’t lose weight or that you can’t stop eating or that you can’t work out – you won’t. That might sound a little out there to you, but let me ask you this: when was the last time you believed you couldn’t do something but then ended up doing it? Probably never. At the very least those thoughts made the situation more difficult to navigate.
What most people don’t realize is that the words we choose to talk to ourselves with and the thoughts we think actually direct our behaviors. And then those behaviors reshape our thinking. Around and around we go.
The fastest way to short circuit your weight loss is to doubt yourself. Asking yourself why this time is going to be different creates a half-hearted effort. You coast through the process just waiting to fail. And do you know what happens? You fail. Funny how that works.
Believing is Succeeding
Now, when was the last time you just knew you were going to succeed at something? Maybe it was a new job, a 5k, or a relationship.
There was no doubt. In fact, you were already living as if it had happened. The event was just a formality.
I bet that thought became a reality.
Weight loss is no different. The very first step you have to take is changing your outlook on success. You have to start living as if you’ve already succeeded. You have to start living the mindset of a fit person.
When you do that your body will fall into line. Your actions will align with your thoughts. New healthy habits will be created and those habits will reinforce your thinking patterns.
Tell Yourself Who You Are
As a personal trainer in Mississauga, I don’t mean to tell you to just go through the motions while doubting yourself in the process. I mean believing without a shadow of a doubt that this time is going to be different. Because once you truly believe that this time is going to be different, it already is.
You are in control of your life. Your life does not control you. You have the power to change who you are and it starts with how you talk to yourself. Your thoughts are powerful.
Thoughts Create Physical Changes
Simply thinking about something stressful, such as giving a presentation, or confronting the person who always upsets you at work, can raise your blood pressure, your heart rate, and cause negative health consequences. Nothing actually happened. It was all your thoughts. See my previous blog on forming habits.
Is it really so hard to believe that having thoughts that align with your goals can actually change your body? Thoughts create actions, which create reinforcing thoughts and actions.
So what does that mean to you?
It means you need to tell yourself every single day who you are and what you want. And you need to believe it with 100% certainty. The kind of certainty you have knowing the sun rises every single day.
You are what you think. Let’s stop the negative self-talk. Let’s stop the self-doubt. It’s time to believe in yourself again because this time is going to be different. You know it.
As a personal trainer in Mississauga, I believe that being fit, healthy, and happy is a state of mind. It starts with your thoughts. Your actions follow. And weight loss is the result.
